Abstract
Professor Augusto Sarmiento is famous in the world for his works on traumatology and orthopedics. He developed a method for the treatment of fractures that has been widely recognized and bears his name. Professor Sarmiento was behind the widespread use of implants in large joints. He was also the president of the American Orthopaedic Association. Now, at the age of 85, he is actively involved in professional and public life, paying a lot of attention to the education of young doctors. In recent years Dr. Sarmiento has been publishing journalistic and polemical articles leading professional journals on general trends of orthopedics and traumatology, in which he sets out his bright and very personal views on our profession. This article is specifically provided by Dr. Sarmiento for publication in our journal.
