Abstract
The problems of the laboratory diagnosis of rheumatic diseases (RD), by determining a broad spectrum of biomarkers at the cellular and humoral levels, are considered.
Serological assays aimed at detecting circulating autoantibodies are noted to hold a central position in the laboratory diagnosis of RD.
Measurement of the blood levels of inflammatory markers maintains its diagnostic value; it is shown to be important to multiplex analysis, a fundamentally new laboratory technique in rheumatology.
