Aims and Scope

Popular science journal about the latest discoveries in the study of near and far space and our planet, about modern space missions, their results and unsolved problems, about the most important projects and historical events in the exploration of our Universe.

The journal fulfils the following tasks

  • propagandises the most important scientific achievements, showing the world outlook significance of the Earth and Universe sciences, as well as the close connection with other fields of knowledge;
  • opposes the anti-scientific nature of all kinds of sensational hypotheses and theories in the field of astronomy, cosmonautics and geophysics, the spread of which discredits science;
  • promotes the development of amateur telescope building and interest in the fields of knowledge on the subject of the journal;
  • provides methodological assistance to teachers and lecturers;
  • promotes wide participation of amateurs of astronomy, cosmonautics and geophysics in observations and research.

To fulfil these tasks, the journal constantly publishes articles by scientists and specialists on topical problems of astronomy, cosmonautics, ecology, geophysics and geodesy, paying special attention to achievements and experiments in space exploration. Along with articles on separate scientific problems, information from the history of science and biographies of outstanding scientists and designers of rocket and space technology, the pages of the edition reflect reports on news of science and technology on the subject of the journal, stories about scientific forums and exhibitions in the country and abroad, astronomical and geophysical expeditions, about the work of observatories and research institutes, information about flights of crews of spacecraft and orbital stations, launches of scientific satellites and interplanetary stations, The journal covers debatable scientific and philosophical problems of natural science, discusses fundamental issues of astronomical and aerospace education, as well as new hypotheses and proposals put forward by astronomers, geophysicists and specialists in the field of astronautics and rocket technology.

Many people of different ages and professions give their leisure time to astronomy. Therefore, a special section of the journal is intended for amateur astronomers who will find in it advice on what and how to observe the sky, how to build a telescope and other instruments, how to properly use the tools, a calendar of astronomical events, information about interesting phenomena. In the journal sometimes appear and humanitarian pages - fiction and science fiction works. Each issue of the journal contains abstracts or reviews of new books, reference data, entertaining tasks and questions, as well as answers to readers.

 
 

Peer Review Process

1. When an article is submitted to the editorial office, it is checked for compliance:

  • manuscript submission guidelines;
  • manuscript file requirements.

If the design of submitted materials does not meet the technical requirements, the article is not accepted for consideration, the author is sent a letter indicating the reasons for refusal of acceptance.

After correction of the deficiencies indicated by the editorial board, the article may be resubmitted for publication.

 

2. The article received by the editorial office and accepted for consideration is registered, the author is sent a letter that the article is accepted for consideration.

 

3. The article accepted for consideration undergoes editorial review.

3.1 The article is checked for formal compliance with the following mandatory criteria:

  • correspondence of the topic of the article to the profile of the journal
  • correspondence of the title of the article to its content;
  • availability of conclusions;
  • availability of the reference list and references to sources in the text of the article.

If an article does not meet one of the above criteria, it is removed from further consideration and sent to the author for revision.

3.2 All articles accepted for consideration are checked by the "Antiplagiat" system.

In case of detected plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the article is removed from further consideration and sent to the author for revision.

3.3 Based on the results of the editorial review, the editorial staff submits to the Editor-in-Chief proposals on sending the article to reviewers - specialists on the subject of the reviewed article.

 

4. The article that has passed the formal editorial examination after the Editor-in-Chief has approved the candidates of reviewers is sent to them for scientific expertise.

4.1 The purpose of scientific expertise of an article is to evaluate:

  • scientific novelty;
  • theoretical and practical relevance of the content.

4.2 The reviewer submits the review to the Editorial Board in any form or in accordance with the form proposed by the Editorial Board. The text of the review shall be submitted electronically.

4.3 All reviews are stored electronically in the editorial office.

4.4 In accordance with the reviewers' feedback, the editorial board makes one of the decisions:

  • accept the article for publication;
  • send the article for additional review;
  • to send to the author recommendations for revision of the article in accordance with the reviewers' comments;
  • to reject the article from publication.

 

5. The final decision on the publication of an article with multidirectional reviews is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

 

6. If the article needs revision, the author is sent appropriate recommendations of reviewers and/or editors.

Returning an article for revision does not mean that it is accepted for publication.

After revision, the article can be resubmitted for publication. The date of receipt of the article in the editorial office is considered to be the date of receipt of the finalised version.

When an article is finalised, it undergoes editorial and scientific review again.

 

7. In case of rejection of an article from publication, the editorial office sends a refusal to the author.

 

8. Terms of article reviewing (verification of fulfilment of formal rules, editorial expertise, scientific expertise) - up to three months.

 

Publication Frequency

The journal is published bimonthly, 6 issues per year

 

Author Self-Archiving

The editors of the journal allow and even encourage authors to place published articles on their personal pages on the Internet and on the websites of their organisations with a link to the original publication on this site.

 

 

Delayed Open Access

The contents of this journal will be available in an open access format 24 month(s) after an issue is published.
