Space Hazards in the Near Space

Resumo

The topic of space hazards is a striking example of an eternal struggle between knowledge and fallacies. We present a very brief review of the modern state of the problem, i.e. the minimum, which would be useful to be aware of when talking about space hazards. This multi-faceted topic has become one of the major areas of the modern science. This topic is traditional for the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The special feature is that most of the research run by the Institute is devoted to space debris and the dangers posed by asteroids and comets. We present some recent interesting results obtained through these studies.
