The processes of absorption, transport, deposition and excretion of iron from the body, the effect of regulatory proteins, transporter proteins and receptor proteins on the metabolism of this trace element are considered. Special attention is paid to iron metabolism among participants in ground-based model experiments simulating the effects of space flight factors, as well as among crew members of expeditions to the Mir space station and the International Space Station. The paper presents and analyzes, from a modern point of view, experimental data on the peculiarities of iron metabolism in humans under extreme conditions of vital activity.</p>
В работе приводятся и анализируются с современной точки зрения экспериментальные данные об особенностях метаболизма железа у человека в экстремальных условиях жизнедеятельности.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>iron metabolism</kwd><kwd>space medicine</kwd><kwd>orbital expeditions</kwd><kwd>model ground experiments</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>метаболизм железа</kwd><kwd>космическая медицина</kwd><kwd>орбитальные экспедиции</kwd><kwd>модельные наземные эксперименты</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><award-group><funding-source><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="ru">Правительство Российской Федерации</institution></institution-wrap><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="en">Government of the Russian Federation</institution></institution-wrap></funding-source></award-group></funding-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Patel M., Ramavataram D.V.S.S.
