It describes the evolutionary aspects of combined oral contraceptive pills and different modes of their use. The paper provides rationales for and benefits of a 91-day fixed extended contraceptive regimen using containing ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. It also describes information on the efficacy, safety, and acceptability of the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel combination with a 7-day continuation of low-dose ethinyl estradiol use. The authors discuss the issues of counseling of women opting for or already using a fixed extended hormonal contraception regimen.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>В статье представлена информация о мировых тенденциях применения комбинированной гормональной контрацепции. Описаны эволюционные аспекты комбинированных оральных таблеток, различные режимы их использования. Приведены обоснования и преимущества фиксированного пролонгированного 91-дневного режима контрацепции с использованием препарата, содержащего этинилэстрадиол и левоноргестрел. Описаны сведения об эффективности, безопасности и приемлемости комбинации этинилэстрадиола и левоноргестрела с 7-дневным продолжением приема низких доз этинилэстрадиола.
