The dependence of the ice specimen rotation velocity on the water salinity and the depth of the experimental container is measured. It is shown that the reason for observable motions over the still water surface is the cellular convective flow generated by the ice melting process.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Представлены результаты экспериментальных исследований и физического моделирования явления самопроизвольного смещения и вращения ледяного диска на поверхности неподвижной воды. Измерены зависимости скорости вращения ледяного образца от солености и глубины экспериментального контейнера. Показано, что причиной наблюдаемых движений на поверхности неподвижной воды является ячеистое конвективное течение, порождённое процессом таяния льда.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>ice</kwd><kwd>melting</kwd><kwd>viscous entrainment</kwd><kwd>convective cells</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>лед</kwd><kwd>таяние</kwd><kwd>вязкое увлечение</kwd><kwd>конвективные ячейки</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><award-group><funding-source><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="ru">Российский научный фонд</institution></institution-wrap><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="en">Russian Science Foundation</institution></institution-wrap></funding-source><award-id>24-27-00029</award-id></award-group></funding-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Nordell B., Westerstrom G.
