The dry extract <italic>C. officinalis</italic> was administered intragastrically at a dose of 100 mg/kg to animals from the second day of the experiment for 20 days. The choleretic function of the liver was assessed in Wistar rats on 7<sup>th</sup>, 14<sup>th</sup> and 21<sup>th</sup> day. The intensity of oxidative stress, the state of the antioxidant system, the energy metabolism of hepatocytes and pathomorphological studies of the liver were held on 14<sup>th</sup> day.</p> <p><bold>Results</bold>. It has been established that <italic>C. officinalis</italic> dry extract in an experimental therapeutic dose has a beneficial effect on the course of acute toxic hepatitis in rats, reduced the intensity of free radical oxidation, limited the inflammatory reaction, reduced the severity of the main manifestations of liver damage – cytolysis, cholestasis, and also corrected energy processes in hepatocytes. Pathomorphological studies confirmed the hepatoprotective effect of the extract <italic>C. officinalis</italic>.</p> <p><bold>Conclusion.</bold> The dry extract <italic>C. officinalis</italic> at a dose of 100 mg/kg has a hepatoprotective effect in experimental toxic hepatitis.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold>Цель исследования </bold>–<bold> </bold>оценить влияние экстракта сухого <italic>Calendula officinalis </italic>L. на течение экспериментального гепатита, вызванного введением тетрахлорметана у крыс-самцов Wistar.</p> <p><bold>Материал и методы. </bold>Экспериментальный гепатит у крыс Wistar вызывали четырехкратным подкожным введением 50%-ного масляного раствора тетрахлорметана в дозе 4 мл/кг. Экстракт <italic>C. officinalis </italic>в дозе 100 мг/кг вводили внутрижелудочно животным со второго дня эксперимента в течение 20 суток. На 7, 14 и 21-е сутки у животных оценивали холеретическую функцию печени. На 14-е сутки исследовали дезинтоксикационную функцию, интенсивность свободно-радикальных процессов, состояние антиоксидантной системы и энергетический метаболизм гепатоцитов, а также проводили патоморфологические исследования печени.</p> <p><bold>Результаты. </bold>Установлено, что <italic>C. officinalis </italic>экстракт сухой в экспериментально-терапевтической дозе оказывает благоприятное влияние на течение острого токсического гепатита у крыс, уменьшая интенсивность свободно-радикального окисления, ограничивая воспалительную реакцию, снижая выраженность основных проявлений повреждения печени – цитолиза, холестаза, а также корригируя энергетические процессы в клетках печени.
