The use of mixed saliva laboratory values for evaluation of periodontal tissue condition

Vavilova T.P., Shtrunova L.N., Shishkin S.V., Shishkin V.S.

Abstract

Chronic inflammatory processes in periodontal tissues are accompanied by an abrupt increase in the levels of interleukin-1b, tumor necrosis factor-α, annexin V, matrix-metalloproteinase-1 proenzyme, tissue inhibitor of matrix-metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), the activity of lactatdehydrogenase, aspartataminotranspherase, alaninaminotranspherase, supeoxiddismutase, and some increase in the content of α-defensins in mixed saliva. An acute form of inflammation is characterized by an increased activity of supeoxiddismutase and aspartataminotranspherase, interleikin-6, matrix-metalloproteinase-1 proenzyme accompanied by a significant decrease in TIMP-1 in mixed saliva

Clinical indices of the condition of the periodontium in patients with chronic generalized periodontium with various histological outcomes of the anti-inflammatory stage of treatment

Grigorovich E.S., Cherkashin D.S., Gorodilov R.V.

Abstract

The article describes 3 groups of biopsy samples obtained from 74 patients with chronic periodontitis before and after a basic anti-inflammatory course (Group 1: active inflammation; Group 2: minimal inflammation; Group 3: "stationary" stage of inflammation). In 28 (37.8%) patients minimal inflammation remained in gingival biopsy samples at the end of treatment, while their clinical indices were normal, which indicated an unfavorable outcome of treatment. Retrospective analysis of the results of clinical examination in groups with a favorable and unfavorable outcome of treatment revealed significant differences between the groups. In the group with an unfavorable outcome mean age was 46.8±11.64 years, the duration of the disease was 10 years or more, Fuchs OI was 59%, Russell's PI index was more than 5.27, and the depth of periodontal pockets was 4 mm or more; these indices were statistically higher than the same ones in the group with a favorable outcome. These data can be used to predict the outcome of anti-inflammatory treatment.

The effects of parental smoking on the intensity of temporary teeth caries in children

Loshakova L.Y., Pylkov A.I., Semenkova O.V.

Abstract

In order to reveal correlations between parental smoking and the incidence of temporary teeth caries in children, 309 3-year-old children were examined. According to the study, maternal smoking, paternal smoking, maternal pregnancy smoking, and passive child smoking are risk factors of temporary teeth caries. The highest intensity of temporary teeth surface caries was revealed in children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy and still smoke.

Ethiopathogenetic aspects of chronic generalized periodontitis

Puzin M.N., Kiparisova Y.S., Vagner V.D., Mamedova L.A., Podoynikova M.N., Gnezdetsky V.V.

Abstract

The article presents the main positions on pathogenetic peculiarities of chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) based on biochemical and neurofunctional parameters. Complex interrelations between immunological and biochemical parameters in patients with CGP, caused by prominent disturbances in local and humoral immunity activation systems, were revealed. The results of the study show that CGP patients have changes in the system of free radical oxidation of antioxidative protection as well as disturbances in the bioelectric activity of the brain with a prevalence of the adrenergic component in the ejection of catecholamines, which demonstrates the need for a wider view on the issue of the pathogenesis of this disease.
