The article presents the results of observational program on the use of insulin glargine in clinical practice foe the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) inadequately controlled on monotherapy with metformin or sulfonylurea. The program included 2500 patients. Addition of insulin glargine to metformin/sulfonylurea monotherapy resulted in improvement of glycemic control in patients with DM2 (reduction of average glycated hemoglobin level by 2,1 %, and fasting plasma glucose - by 4,4 mg/dL. Hypoglycemic episodes within 3 months after initiation of insulin glargine therapy have been reported in 17 % of patients, most of them have experienced only 1-2 episodes. Body weight did not increase in these patients.

Представлены результаты наблюдательной программы по применению инсулина гларгин в реальной клинической практике у больных сахарным диабетом 2 типа (СД2) , не достигших компенсации в результате монотерапии метформином или производными сульфонилмочевины (ПСМ). В программу были включены 2500 пациентов. Добавление инсулина гларгин к монотерапии метформином/ПСМ привело к улучшению гликемического контроля у пациентов с СД2 (снижение среднего уровня гликированного гемоглобина на 2,1 %, гликемии натощак - на 4,4 ммоль/л. Гипогликемические эпизоды в течение 3 месяцев после инициации терапии инсулином гларгин были зарегистрированы у 17 % пациентов, при этом большинство из них испытало лишь 1-2 эпизода. При этом масса тела больных не увеличилась.
