The pathogenesis of anemia in a malignant process is quite complex and is attributable both to the presence of the tumor itself and to the ongoing antitumor treatment. This review summarizes current ideas about the causes and mechanisms of anemia in cancer patients, discusses the diagnostic algorithm and key methods for correcting this condition.</p>
