Abstract
Atypical facial pain (AFP) often serves as a diagnosis of exclusion in chronic facial pain syndromes. The pathogenesis of AFP is not exactly established. Clinical manifestations, modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of AFP are discussed. The study analyzed the clinical and neurophysiological data of 45 patients with AFP aged 25 to 74 years (42 women and 3 men). The duration of the disease ranged from 3 months to 30 years. Patients underwent investigation of multimodal evoked potentials and electroencephalography. It was revealed that the AFP is characterized by dysfunction of the stem structures in the form of an increase in their reactivity and pronounced vegetative disorders.
