The problem of treatment of pain not associated with malignancies is considered. Comparative characteristics of pain rating scales are presented. The article presents data of double-blind studies of multimodal therapy (codeine + non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which have shown the advantage of combination therapy with codeine + ibuprofen compared with monotherapy with ibuprofen and combination therapy with acetaminophen + codeine + caffeine.
