VERBS OF THE FIELD OF FALSEHOOD IN MODERN ENGLISH

Abstract

In the paper verbs of the semantic group “lie” are viewed as part of the field of falsehood. The author considers that the feature “false reflection of reality” is common to all verbs of the group in question. Having analysed the definitions and contextual environment of the verbs of falsehood in the English language discourse, the author comes to the conclusion that the inventory and semantic classification of verbs under analysis, which are very rich in their meaning, present a problem in modern linguistics. The article is an attempt to appreciate the semantics of the verbs belonging to the group under investigation.

Locus “ home” is a cultural constant of Russian sphere of concepts and it has become one of the key ones for Russian linguopoetics. By analyzing the literary text in terms of cognitive linguistics the author presents the features of locus “Home” and highlights its inner boundaries as exemplified in the poetry of the Silver Age. Nouns window, ceiling, doors, roof, garden , that contribute to poetic metaphorization and conceptualization of home space, are lexical explicators of the boundaries.
