New data on wood quality, including density and structural characteristics of wood fibers, are reported for 34-year-old triploid hybrids grown in mixed-ploidy poplar test plantations in the Voronezh Region. Analysis revealed differences in growth and wood quality among the triploid hybrids, attributed to their genetic characteristics. We suggest that the use of 2<italic>n</italic> gametes with high heterozygosity, formed in our case due to the absence of chromosome conjugation and segregation during the first meiotic division under heat induction, can promote the high growth and productivity of triploids. The triploid hybrid no. 65 and diploid hybrid no. 184 exhibited the best performance in the region, with superior growth, trunk volume, wood density, and fiber length and thickness. Specifically, their wood fiber lengths (1,43 mm and 1,35 mm) exceed their fiber thicknesses (0,0217 mm and 0,021 mm) by 66 and 64 times, respectively, making them promising for paper production. These hybrids also showed the highest wood densities (372 kg/m<sup>3</sup> for no. 65 and 364 kg/m<sup>3</sup> for no. 184). The study suggests that establishing forest plantations allocated to wood production with selected diploid and triploid white poplar hybrids is a promising approach for forest-steppe conditions.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Представлены результаты анализа роста и качества древесины четырех клонов диплоидных (2<italic>n</italic> = 38), а также триплоидных (2<italic>n</italic> = 57) гибридов тополя белого (<italic>Populus</italic><italic> </italic><italic>alba</italic><italic> </italic>L.), полученных с использованием в гибридизации искусственно синтезированной с помощью повышенной температуры диплоидной (2<italic>n</italic>) пыльцы. Приведены новые данные по качеству древесины (плотности и структурным характеристикам древесинных волокон) у индуцированных таким способом 34-летних триплоидных гибридов, произрастающих в разноплоидных испытательных культурах тополя Воронежской области. Выявлены различия по росту и качеству древесины у триплоидных гибридов, обусловленные их генетическими особенностями. Изложено мнение о том, что хороший рост и высокую продуктивность триплоидов может обеспечить участие в гибридизации 2<italic>n</italic> гамет с высокой степенью гетерозиготности, сформированных в нашем случае на основе отсутствия конъюгации хромосом и их сегрегации в первом делении мейоза под действием термоиндукции. Лучшие показатели по росту, объему стволов, базисной плотности древесины, длине и толщине древесинного волокна в исследуемом регионе установлены у триплоидного гибрида № 65 и диплоидного № 184. Показано, что длина древесинных волокон у них (1,43 мм и 1,35 мм) превосходит толщину (0,0217 мм и 0,021 мм) в 66 и 64 раз соответственно, что представляет интерес для бумажного производства.
