Fire hazard assessment in drained peatlands using retrospective analysis of fires data from satellite remote sensing
Abstract
The study is dedicated to methods for assessing the fire hazard of drained peatlands based on satellite monitoring data. A set of criteria is proposed to evaluate the fire hazard level in drained peatlands using retrospective satellite fire data. The sum of hotspots (SH) is identified as the main criterion. Additional criteria for ranking (sorting) drained peat bogs according to their fire hazard are proposed. A web tool and publicly available database have been developed for analyzing hotspots in the contours of most Russian drained bogs, dividing hotspots by year, season, and data from different satellites. For peat fire prevention projects planning and implementation it is recommended to select the most fire hazardous peatlands that cause great damage in case of peat fire based on the specified parameters in combination with other factors (population density, proximity to cities).

Survival and growth of larch climatic types in provenance trial plantations in Arkhangelsk region
Abstract
The paper considers the features of survival and growth of 14 Larix provenances (6 species, some of which are represented by several geographical races) in provenance trial plantations created in 1978 in the Arkhangelsk region (subzone of the middle taiga). It was found that the most pronounced loss of larch provenances was observed in the 1st age class, and did not depend on the parameters of the climatic and geographical characteristics of the growth places of the original plantations and its similarity with the conditions of the test site. It is shown that the main cause of larches death of different species and geographical races in the conditions of the north were local soil-hydrological and weather conditions (frosts), as well as freezing due to losing by trees the protective snow cover. The materials on the preservation and growth dynamics of various provenances of larch are presented. The collection revealed two relatively resistant to unusual growing conditions with an ultra–long transfer in the meridian direction of the climate — Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ldb.) from the Irkutsk region and Okhotsk larch (L. ochotensis Kolesn.) from the Khabarovsk Territory, the preservation of which at the age of 47 was 5.7 and 7.4%, respectively. The absence of reproductive activity of offspring was noted. It is shown that Siberian larch has an advantage in terms of the number of living trees, taxational characteristics, condition and quality of the trunk, compared with Okhotsk larch. It is recommended to use these two populations for consideration for breeding improvement.

Biotopic variability of photosynthetic pigment content in blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) leaves in southern taiga subzone
Abstract
The composition, content and ratio of pigments are important characteristics of the functional state of plants. Changes in the pigment system of plants are a significant criterion for assessing the influence of environmental factors on them. The paper presents data on the content of photosynthetic pigments in the leaves of Vaccinium myrtillus L., growing in various ecological and cenotic conditions of the Southern Taiga subzone. Leaf samples collected in phytocenoses dominated by Vaccinium myrtillus L. in the grass-shrub layer, belonging to 5 types of plant communities, were analyzed. Chlorophyll a and b, carotenoid concentrations were determined in freshly collected raw materials using a spectrophotometric method. Among the types of habitats studied, the largest pigment stock, which provides a high intensity of photosynthesis, is characteristic of Vaccinium myrtillus L. growing in conditions of pine and spruce shrub-green moss (11,87 and 12,52 mg/g of dry mass, respectively). The lowest concentration of chlorophylls (5,22…7,65 mg/g of dry weight) was detected in phytocenoses with excessive moisture (pine forests, spruce forests, birch forests of shrub-green moss-sphagnum). As a result of the study, it was found that the ratio of chlorophylls a and b (Кa/b) varies from 1,17 to 1,83, and the value of the ratio of chlorophylls/carotenoids in the studied types of forest growing conditions ranges from 4,47 to 11,22. Carotenoids in the leaves of the species under study are contained, depending on the habitat, from 0,85 to 2,7 mg/g of dry matter. It was shown that the content of carotenoids positively correlates with the content of chlorophylls at the level of r = 0.62 (p < 0,01). The obtained results on the accumulation of carotenoids suggest that an increase in their proportion in shrub-green-moss pine trees is associated with an increase in the light-protective role of carotenoids in phytocenoses of this type. Whereas in spruce forests, the accumulation of pigment is due to the activation of its light-collecting function. It has been established that the pigment content in blueberry leaves depends on environmental factors (illumination, soil acidity).

Comprehensive assessment of mineral and biologized feeding systems for cultivation of European white elm (Ulmus laevis Pall.) seedlings with root-balled system
Abstract
The article discusses the forestry and ecological characteristics of the smooth elm. The author’s analysis of stock materials and literary sources has been performed. The features of technological operations for growing planting material in a nursery have been analyzed. An experiment has been conducted to assess the impact of domestic-made complex fertilizers on the vital state, growth, and development of the smooth elm in a greenhouse. The article provides a forestry assessment of the growth and development of smooth elm seedlings in the first year of cultivation. The results of the experiment have demonstrated the effectiveness of using complex fertilizers to increase the growth rate in height and diameter. The morphometric characteristics of the seedlings were analyzed according to the relative growth groups (slow, moderate, and fast-growing), in which most of the specimens exceed the standard values of the trunk diameter at the root collar and height by more than 3 times. The yield of medium- and fast-growing seedlings was 70 %. The experiment proved that it is possible to obtain large-sized planting material with high growth energy in one year of cultivation in nurseries. Moreover, the relative quality indicator of the planting material indicates a high adaptive capacity of the plants during their further cultivation.

On introduction of term «interphase transition coefficient» in data analysis from phenological observations as case study of various species of larch
Abstract
The work is devoted to the application of a fundamentally new method of processing data from phenological observations. The proposed method analyzes the relationship of the onset of phenological phases with environmental factors, taking into account the rate of interphase transition, which strongly depends on the seasonal variability of these factors, primarily temperature. Describing the dynamics of seasonal development of plants, the coefficients of the interphase transition of trees are introduced, which characterize the rate of transformation of a tree from one phase to another. This makes it possible to establish the dependences of the onset of a specific phenophase on the influence of a limiting environmental factor when using linear and polynomial approximation. This method also makes it possible to eliminate the time interval of accumulation of positive temperatures from the calculation model and make comparisons regardless of the individual climatic conditions of the growing season. The application of the described technique is possible when conducting comparative phenological studies of similar taxa in order to identify differences in their response to limiting environmental factors. The proposed method for calculating phenological data is given and tested on the example of various species of the Larch genus. At the same time, the main factor under consideration affecting the seasonal development of species is the sum of positive temperatures. The obtained data are supposed to be used in the future for a detailed comparison of introduction of the studied species in the territory of the middle zone of the Russian Federation.

Soil gels: extraction from soils, evaluation of content, composition and verification of relation with certain soil properties
Abstract
A method to extract organomineral gels (OMG) from soils based on the treatment of soil suspension with 0,2 h ammonium hydroxide solution, ultrasonic dispersion and subsequent centrifugation is proposed. It was found that the isolated particles have sizes from tens to hundreds of microns, low density, are capable of coagulation and form solid-like structures, which confirms their gel nature. Using X-ray local microanalysis, the organomineral composition of the gels is shown. The quantitative content of OMG was 10 % for sod-podzolic soil, 12 % for gray forest and 28 % for leached chernozem. No relationship has been found between the content of gels and the water resistance of soils, the history of land use, or the size of soil aggregates. The developed method can be used to quantify organomineral gels in different types of soils.

Effect of cement activity on kinetics of wood-cement composite hardening and strength
Abstract
The study results of the effect of cement activity on the hardening kinetics and wood-cement composite (arbolite) strength are presented. It has been established that in order to increase the wood-cement composite strength at the design age, it is possible to use highly effective cements during steaming. It was revealed by the relative strength index that the effect of highly effective cements on the arbolite hardening acceleration is observed only under prolonged conditions of temperature and humidity treatment. It has been established that a wood-cement composite made on cements of the same brand can acquire different strength at the age of 28 days when used for steaming cements of different efficiency. A sharp slowdown in composite hardening was observed with increased carbohydrate content, without reducing the maximum strength at the design age. An increase in the sensitivity of composite strength to a decrease in the number of extractives in the wood core was determined. The dependence of the final composite strength on the efficiency of the cement used is presented.

Toughness index of three thermally modified hardwoods
Abstract
The results of complex tests of the mechanical properties of birch, ash and oak wood subjected to intensive thermal treatment according to the Thermo D class are presented. The toughness indices were determined during tests in various structural directions for compression and static bending, as well as hardness and screw pull-out resistance. The values of the modulus of elasticity under static bending were obtained. All tests were carried out on small clear specimens of standard sizes. A comparative analysis of the established indicators of the mechanical properties of thermally modified birch, ash and oak wood with similar characteristics of native wood of the same species, taken from literary sources, was conducted. The ambiguity of the effect of intensive heat treatment on the considered mechanical properties and the modulus of elasticity under static bending of these wood species was revealed. It was found that there is a significant decrease in the strength of birch and oak wood under static bending after thermal treatment, while for ash wood such an effect could not be identified. It is shown that as a result of thermal modification, the static hardness of the radial and tangential surfaces of birch and ash samples decreases most significantly. A noticeable decrease in hardness of the radial surfaces of oak specimens was also noted, but at the same time, the hardness of their tangential surfaces changed insignificantly. It is indicated that thermal modification has a lesser effect on the strength of wood of all considered species under compression along and across the grain. It was established that as a result of thermal treatment, the wood of the studied species retained the ratios of anisotropy of mechanical properties with some modifications.

Woodland ploughs baricentric parametres research using computing engineering tools
Abstract
The necessity of developing modern models of equipment for cultivation forest soil, including those with an increased degree of moisture, has been determined. Soil cultivation in such conditions is carried out by creating microhills of the surface in the form of soil borders, ridges or turning of seams. The developed designs of woodland ploughs are presented, for which a study of their mass-inertia characteristics based on the designed 3D models was carried out. Using CAD, the mass distribution across the studied structures detail part was estimated, which made it possible, taking into account the overall dimensions, to find the location of the developed ploughs center of mass. In the CAD environment, a scheme for unitizing combined implements with basic tractors of drawbar category 3 and 1,4 tf was developed. In order to determine the necessary energy characteristics of the machine-tractor unit for the tools being developed, a theoretical study was conducted based on mathematical modeling of the ploughs working process. In this case, the value of the tractors nominal traction power is used as a classification parameter. By calculating a special coefficient, the ratio of the required traction power to the tractor rated traction power was estimated. Taking into account the parameters of the cultivated soil and the designed tools, a study was conducted to find the optimal value of the tractor traction power as part of a machine-tractor unit. As a result, for aggregation with forest ploughs that cultivation waterlogged soil with increased traction resistance by creating linear ridges or turning of seams along the edges of the furrow, it is recommended to use a tractor with a traction class of 3 tf or higher or a tractor with a traction class of 1,4 tf, respectively.

Experimental efficiency evaluation of technological solutions in truck haul roads construction
Abstract
The article analyzes the need to use high-performance single-bucket excavators at various stages of technological processes for the construction of haulage roads, which, in turn, is aimed at increasing the level of industrialization of the road construction infrastructure as a whole. The expediency of searching for new technological solutions in the field of forest road construction that ensure resource conservation in the context of saving material resources, technical equipment and labor resources without reducing the quality characteristics of the constructed roadway is substantiated. The modern technology of building haulage roads using a universal machine — a single-bucket excavator equipped with two types of buckets is considered: a fixed bucket for excavating soil in the «reverse shovel» position, equipped with teeth, and a grading bucket equipped with a cutting edge and stiffening ribs on the rear side. An assessment is given of the feasibility and efficiency of using a particular bucket at the corresponding stages of road structure construction. On the territory of the educational and research complex located on the basis of Petrozavodsk State University in the Republic of Karelia, the values of the operating cycle times of a machine with two types of buckets of the same volume were experimentally determined and analyzed when performing various operations during the construction of a haulage road. An assessment was made of the influence of the parameters of the empirical dependence for determining the hourly technological productivity of earthmoving and transport equipment. Based on the calculations made, the dependence of the hourly technological productivity of an excavator on the operating cycle time of the machine was obtained.

Jordan form of the product of two diagonalizable matrices, each of which has two different eigenvalues
Abstract
It is shown that in the canonical Jordan form of the expression F = (R + μI)(Q + νI) for the projectors R, Q the following symmetry with respect to the value ρ = μ(μ + 1)ν(ν + 1) is observed. For λ2 ≠ ρ if there are several cells Jk(λ), then there are exactly as many cells Jk(ρ/λ), where λ is the eigenvalue of the matrix F. For cells with λ Î σ = {μν, μ(ν + 1), (μ + 1)ν, (μ + 1)(ν + 1)} the symmetry is somewhat broken: if there is a cell Jk(λ) with k > 1, then there is necessarily a paired cell Jl(ρ/λ), where |k – l| ≤ 1. For λ2 = ρ and λ Ï σ the cells Jk(λ) must have an even order.
