The reasons for the emergence of national libraries and the factors that influenced their formation and development were individual in each case. The article provides information on the origin and characteristic features of institutions of this type founded in different countries of the world (Russia, the UK, Germany, the USA, etc.). Using the cognitive potential of the classification method, the author analyzes the specifics of national libraries, their institutional and functional differences. The main libraries of different countries were initially formed as public, parliamentary, university and museum ones, which left its own unique imprint on their acquisition policy, the composition of funds and the target audience of their service.
Причины возникновения национальных библиотек и факторы, влиявшие на их становление и развитие, были индивидуальны в каждом конкретном случае. В статье приводится информация о происхождении и характерных особенностях учреждений данного вида, основанных в различных странах мира (Россия, Великобритания, Германия, США и др.). Автор анализирует специфику национальных библиотек, их институциональные и функциональные различия, используя когнитивный потенциал метода классификации. Главные библиотеки государств изначально формировались как публичные, парламентские, университетские и музейные, что наложило свой неповторимый отпечаток на политику комплектования, состав фондов и целевую аудиторию обслуживания.
