In the article presents a historical overview of the main stages of the thinking about viral liver damage from the late XIX century to the present. Described the stages of evolution of views on the etiology, pathogenesis, treatment of acute and chronic viral hepatitis. Current state of problem and prospects opening before doctors and researchers presented in detail.

В статье представлен исторический обзор основных этапов развития учения о вирусных поражениях печени с конца XIX столетия по настоящее время. Охарактеризованы этапы эволюции взглядов на этиологию, патогенез, лечение острых и хронических вирусных гепатитов. Подробно представлены современное состояние проблемы и перспективы, открывающиеся перед врачами-исследователями и клиницистами.
