Abstract
The article provides an assessment of the medical and sanitary measures associated with the events of the naval battle of the cruiser Varyag with the Japanese squadron. The analysis of literature and archival search allowed us to see not only the work of the ship's staff doctors, but also medical workers of the non-participating countries, as well as the activities of the employees of the Japanese Red Cross Society in providing medical care to wounded Russian sailors. The authors argue that the actual medical care provided to the wounded was carried out in the required volume. The medical aspects of this "short but hot cruiser battle" were used by contemporaries to develop proposals to increase the combat potential of warships and improve medical support for the Navy.
