Abstract

Stricture disease of the urethra is a common pathology of men's urethra, which has a significant impact on the quality of the patients, lives requiring significant health care costs. The first mention of attempts to alleviate the suffering from strictures of the urethra displayed in ancient Egyptian papyrus and dates back to the VIII-X AD. It is proved by archaeological sources of homemade urethral bougies of that period. Success in the treatment of patients with urethral strictures directly depends on the doctor,s fundamental knowledge on anatomy, pathophysiology, and pathogenesis of stenosis of the urethra and the correct choice of treatment for a specific patient. Modern methods of treatment stricture disease of the urethra are presented by endourethral methods (urethral dilatation, internal optical urethrotomy) and by opened surgical (operative) techniques (anastomotic and substitution urethroplasty). Anastomotic urethroplasty is the procedure of choice for patients with a short (1,5 cm) single bulleznogo department of strictures of the urethra. The efficiency is over 90%. Over the last 50 years the urethral surgeons interest has been aimed at the study of peculiarities of treatment of extensive (>2 cm) strictures bulbar and penile division of the urethra, according to the current guidelines the "Gold standard" in the treatment of the pathologies noticed before is recognized as the substitution (augmentation) urethroplasty with buccal mucosa graft. Modern techniques allow plastics widely and effectively use the material of the buccal mucosa of the patient, however, histopathological analysis of morphological and functional transformations of transplanted epithelium in a new environment poorly understood which may cause a scientific interest (6 figs, 1 tables, bibliography: 25 refs).
