In addition, five species of human malaria parasites of the genus <italic>Plasmodium</italic> (<italic>P. falciparum</italic>, <italic>P. vivax</italic>, <italic>P. ovale</italic>, <italic>P. malariae</italic>, and <italic>P. knowlesi</italic>) were screened in the collected material.</p> <p><bold>AIM:</bold> To assess the species composition of vectors responsible for the most relevant and socially significant vector-borne infections in southern Vietnam during the dry and rainy seasons, and to identify active malaria foci.</p> <p><bold>METHODS:</bold> Arthropod collection was carried out in October 2024 and May 2025 in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve (Ho Chi Minh Province). Adult hematophagous dipterans were collected using aspirators from hosts, entomological nets from vegetation, as well as from external surfaces of residential and utility buildings. Immature stages were collected by filtering water samples from natural and artificial water bodies suitable for mosquito breeding. Species identification of arthropods was performed based on morphological characteristics using dichotomous keys. Mosquito species identification and Plasmodium detection were conducted using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Confirmation of <italic>Plasmodium ovale </italic>was performed by Sanger sequencing.</p> <p><bold>RESULTS:</bold> A total of 414 Anopheles mosquitoes were identified, of which 356 specimens (86%) belonged to <italic>An. epiroticus</italic>. DNA of <italic>Plasmodium</italic> parasites was detected in 32 mosquito samples: 17 (53.1%) positive for <italic>P. falciparum</italic> and 15 (46.9%) for <italic>P. ovale</italic>.</p> <p><bold>CONCLUSION:</bold> Despite a general decline in malaria incidence in Vietnam, foci of “forest malaria” remain active. In coastal areas of southern Vietnam, <italic>An. epiroticus</italic> plays an important role in maintaining active malaria transmission. In addition to spreading the causative agent of tropical malaria (<italic>P. falciparum</italic>), these vectors may also contribute to the transmission of <italic>P. ovale</italic>, thus sustaining foci of tertian malaria and potentially leading to cases of mixed infections.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold>Актуальность.</bold> Вьетнам добивается значительных успехов в борьбе с малярией, тем не менее это заболевание по-прежнему представляет собой важную проблему общественного здравоохранения страны. Это связано с сохранением активных очагов малярии, регулярным трансграничным переносом инфекции, обусловленным сезонной трудовой миграцией населения, а также широким распространением высокоэффективных переносчиков — комаров <italic>Anopheles</italic>. В статье представлены результаты обследования популяции переносчиков малярии в прибрежных районах Южного Вьетнама (провинция Хошимин) на зараженность простейшими рода <italic>Plasmodium</italic> (<italic>P. falciparum</italic>, <italic>P. vivax</italic>, <italic>P. ovale</italic>, <italic>P. malariae</italic>, и <italic>P. knowlesi</italic>.</p> <p><bold>Цель</bold> — оценка видовой структуры и эффективности переносчиков малярийных плазмодиев на территории Южного Вьетнама в сезон дождей (период подъема заболеваемости) и во время сухого сезона (период снижения уровня заболеваемости).</p> <p><bold>Методы.</bold> Сбор членистоногих проводился в октябре 2024 г. и в мае 2025 г. на территории биосферного заповедника Кан Зьо (Can Gio) в провинции Хошимин. Отлов имаго кровососущих двукрылых осуществлялся при помощи ультрафиолетовых ловушек, эксгаустерами и энтомологическими сачками на теле животных прокормителей. Видовую идентификацию членистоногих проводили по морфологическим признакам с помощью дихотомических определителей, а также молекулярно-генетическими методами. Инфицированность комаров плазмодиями оценивалась с помощью специфических праймеров посредством полимеразной цепной реакции и таргетного секвенирования.</p> <p><bold>Результаты.</bold> Обследовано 414 комаров рода Anopheles, из которых 356 насекомых (86%) относились к виду <italic>An. epiroticus</italic>. В 32 образцах выявлены генетические маркеры возбудителей рода <italic>Plasmodium</italic>, из них 17 (53,1%) — <italic>P. falciparum</italic> и 15 (46,9%) — <italic>P. ovale</italic>.</p> <p><bold>Заключение.</bold> Несмотря на снижение заболеваемости малярии во Вьетнаме сохраняются очаги «лесной» малярии. В прибрежных районах Южного Вьетнама <italic>An. epiroticus</italic> играют значимую роль в сохранении активных очагов малярийной инфекции.
