The role of ethylene in phenotypic manifestation of mutant root system was confirmed. It was shown that the mutant is characterized by increased production of and increased sensitivity to ethylene and by changes in regulation of ethylene biosynthesis leading to increased activity of the ethylene-producing enzyme ACC-oxidase.</p>
