Al-Shukri S.K., Kuzmin I.V., Slesarevskaya M.N., Ignashov Y.A.

Abstract

Introduction. Increasing the effectiveness of diagnostic and treatment of patients with the bladder pain syndrome (BPS) is an actual problem of the current urology. Assessment of clinical manifestations of the disease is carried out using special questionnaires. One of the most commonly used of that is the Pelvic Pain and Urgency/Frequency Patient Symptom Scale (PUF Scale). Purpose of the study. Evaluate the validity of the Russian-language version of the PUF questionnaire in patients with BPS. Materials and methods. The main group consisted of 40 patients with BPS (5 men and 35 women). The control group consisted of 50 conditionally healthy volunteers (16 men and 34 women). All participants in the study filled out the diary of the urination and the PUF Scale questionnaire twice with an interval of 2 weeks. For patients with BPS was performed cystoscopy with hydrodistension of the bladder. Results. In patients with BPS the total mean score for the PUF Scale questionnaire was 25.3 ± 6.9, with an average urinary symptom score of 14.7 ± 4.5 and an average discomfort score of 8.7 ± 2.5. The difference between the values of all three indices in the main and control groups was significantly different (p < 0.001). A high degree of internal consistency of the questions of the PUF Scale questionnaire (coefficient of Cronbach alpha 0.961) is shown. The sum of the PUF Scale questionnaire correlated with the clinical manifestations of BPS as well as the presence of Hunner’s bladder lesions (p = 0.024) and bladder capacity in hydrodistension (p = 0.001). Conclusion. The PUF Scale questionnaire is a reliable method for assessing the severity of symptomatology of BPS. The results of the questionnaire correlate with the severity of clinical manifestations of the disease, as well as with cystoscopy data. Korneyev I.A., Zasseev R.D.

Abstract

In this descriptive retrospective, single-center study, we analyzed the local database of 82 men treated for infertility due to retrograde ejaculation and anejaculation in the International Centre for Reproductive Medicine. Spermatozoa for IVF/ICSI cycles were retrieved from post-ejaculatory urine and by aspiration biopsies (PESA/TESA). An algorithm for diagnosis and treatment of infertile men with retrograde ejaculation and anejaculation has been suggested.
