Abstract
The paper gives information on trends in the treatment of perforated peptic ulcer (PU). The basic surgical treatment for PU, as 100 years ago, is palliative surgery for its suturing. Radical operations become a rarity due to the resignation of surgeons who are able to use vagotomy techniques. Mortality following gastric resection for PU is unreasonably high. Laporoscopic operations can be changed for open ones only after experienced gastroenterological surgeons acquire specific manual skills.
