Rituximab in the current therapy of rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the problem of treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and the current concepts of pathogenesis and treatment of this serious disease are illustrated. The modern genetically engineered biological preparations used for treatment of RA, including inhibitors of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-alpha) and group of chimeric monoclonal antibodies, with particular focus on to rituximab, are considered. The article presents review of studies devoted to evaluation of the effectiveness of rituximab for the treatment of patients with RA. Results of studies allow us to consider rituximab as drug for wide practical use and actively competing with inhibitors of TNF-alpha.
