SELECTION OF COMBINATION OF AN ACE INHIBITORS AND DIURETICS IN THE TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION IN THE NEW VERSION OF RUSSIAN RECOMMENDATIONS: FOCUS ON THE TREATMENT OF ELDERLY PATIENTS

Abstract

The article stated the possible indications for the choice of two-component combinations of antihypertensives, including ACE inhibitor with thiazide diuretics. The advantages of the combination of an ACE inhibitor with a diuretic in terms of antihypertensive efficacy, organoprotection, and metabolic neutrality are presented. Clinical aspects of a combination of an ACE inhibitor with a thiazide diuretic, its possible side effects and ways to their minimization are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the importance of treatment of arterial hypertension in elderly patients with polypathia (comorbidity), isolated systolic hypertension, as well as the choice of an ACE inhibitor in these conditions.
