Abstract
This article discusses the clinical and pathogenetic role of proteolysis system components (matrix metalloproteinase 9 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1) in the colonic mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitis, and provides criteria for prediction of relapse and remission of the disease, allowing to complement modern diagnostic and treatment algorithm, and limit the use of steroid hormones.
