There are many publications on the safety of antidepressant therapy in modern literature. However, the pathogenesis of mental disorders, as well as the mechanisms of therapeutic and adverse effects in these studies are considered separately from each other. Meanwhile, investigation of the relationship between these phenomena allows to classified the side effects of antidepressants into two types: associated and dissociated. The first phenomena cannot be separated from the mechanism of action of drugs, providing their therapeutic effects in depression and anxiety (stimulation of neurons). The latter are not connected with the therapeutic effect of antidepressants on neurons and are a set of «extra» adverse events related to decreased activity of nerve cells.
