Abstract

Conditions accompanied by obstruction of the upper respiratory tract play an important role among acute respiratory diseases in the children’s population. Most of them are accounted for the croup syndrome, which represents a subglotic mucosal edema, accompanied by typical clinical symptoms: inspiratory stridor, hoarseness, and rough «barking» cough. There are viral and spastic (recurrent) croups -pathogenetically different states with the same symptomatology. The drugs of choice for relief of acute laryngostenosis are oral, parenteral or inhalated glucocorticosteroids. The article describes possible conditions, manifested by relapses of croup, and main drugs, often used, but not effective in laryngostenosis.
