Abstract

Measure of the effect retention is one of the base characteristics of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs); it combines effectiveness/safety indicators of the drug and express patients willingness to continue the medical treatment. Taking into account increasing saturation of the market with new AEDs, retention rate should be resultant measure for assessment of reliability and feasibility of long-term use of the drug. The present study focuses on evaluation of efficacy of long-term use of topiramate as monotherapy in children and adults with epilepsy.
