TREATMENT STRATEGY IN ACUTE PURULENT SINUSITIS: POSSIBILITIES OF COMPLEX THERAPY USING ECHINACEA COMPOSITUM SN

This study was aimed to the development of methods to increase the effectiveness of therapy of acute purulent sinusitis (APS) and reduce the risk of its complications. The study included two groups of patients receiving basic treatment with ceftriaxone (2.0 g per day intramuscularly) along with sinus puncture and lavage with furacillin solution and anemization of nasal mucosa using nafazolin solution. Additionally, Group 1 (n=142) has received activation therapy with Echinacea compositum SN, and Group 2 (n=99) didn’t receive activation therapy. Besides standard methods of assessing the effectiveness of therapy, bacteriological analysis of the contents of paranasal sinuses, rhinohemogram, and quantitative study of serum C-reactive protein and immunoglobulin A levels from a vein and from the mucous membrane of the lateral wall of the nasal cavity were performed. The findings allowed to consider the activation therapy as a highly effective method reducing the inflammation response and reducing the risk of the APS recurrence.
