Диабетическая периферическая невропатия (ДПН) является ведущей причиной нетравматических ампутаций нижних конечностей. Рассматривается роль гипергликемии на развитие микрососудистых осложнений сахарного диабета, включая ДПН, обсуждаются механизмы повреждения тканей вследствие гипергликемии. Представлены данные о клинической картине и принципах диагностики ДПН, а также современных подходах к лечению этого диабетического осложнения с использованием симптоматических и патогенетических средств. К числу последних относятся, в частности, тиоктовая кислота и бенфотиамин.
