Abstract
The pathogenetic mechanisms of septic inflammation and diabetes mellitus on systemic level (disorders of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism) were reviewed in the article. Besides, the epidemiological studies of distribution of surgical infection in patients with diabetes mellitus (type II preferably) were considered. In was shown that background diabetes mellitus in patients with heavy sepsis did not affect the lethality of patients. At the same time, insulin therapy in patients with heavy sepsis to support normoglucemia decreased the lethality significantly.
