Abstract
The article deals with the comparative study of surgical and radiological methods in diagnosis of pathologic process extension below the diaphragm in 542 patients with Hodgkin's disease (HD) during the period of 1975-2000. Sensitivity and accuracy of the above mentioned methods are shown depending on clinical situation. Ultrasound examination and X-ray CT are confirmed to be the standard radiological techniques for the stage determination. Their accuracy approaches to 95 %. Diagnostic laparotomy with splenectomy and diagnostic laparoscopy are adequate in their abilities and can specify the stage of the disease in 100 per cent of the cases. Basing on the obtained data the algorithm for the diagnosis of the process extension below the diaphragm is suggested for the first examination, therapy effectiveness assessment and remission control in patients with HD.
