Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

Authors of the submitted articles are kindly requested to adhere to the following regulations based on the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals”, developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Manuscripts are submitted as Microsoft Word documents (*.doc, *.docx, and *.rtf format).
Manuscript requirements. Maximum length of the original articles should not exceed 10 pages (including illustrations, tables and references). Literature reviews and discussion articles should not exceed 15 pages. Whether the submitted manuscript exceeds the aforementioned limits, the editorial board will carry out the final decision based on the recommendations received from the reviewer.
Manuscript text format. All manuscripts should be submitted to Editorial Manager in 12-point Times New Roman with 2cm borders around the margins. The text must be single-spaced. Please indent 0.75cm for each new paragraph. The authors are requested to avoid any underlining in the text while the italic or bold formatting are both acceptable. The text must not contain multiple spaces or excessive line breaks.
Manuscript structure should be organized according to the following template:

  1. UDC should be put on top of the abstract page (running title).
  2. Abstract page structure:
    • Article title. English title should be in capital bold letters.
    • Author names. Names should be given in italics format and in according to the official documents such as an international passport or according to the name in previously published articles.
    • Affiliation. The authors should provide an official name of the affiliation.
    • Abstract. The abstract of the original article must be formatted according to the following structure: background, aim/objective, materials and methods, results, conclusion.  The abstract must completely reflect the information presented in the article. The results must be precise, informative and include key facts, theoretical, experimental findings, associations and correlations. Preferences are given to the newly found data and important findings, conclusions, which challenge the existing theories, and practical issues. Abbreviations and abridged terms are used in exceptional cases and must be provided with an explanation at first mention. An abstract must be precise, should not contain any secondary information, must be free from transition words and general phrases. The length of the abstract should not exceed 230-250 words.
    • Key words. MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) thesaurus is a preferred source for choosing keywords; 3 to7 key words are acceptable. Key words should contribute to the indexing of the article in search engines.
  3. The text of the original article (excluding clinical cases and literature reviews) should contain the following parts: “background”, “aim/objective”, “materials and methods”, “results and discussion”, “conclusion”, “references” (the title of each part is given in bold, centered text on a separate line; “background” is given with no title).
  4. Additional information/Acknowledgments
    Conflicts of interest. The authors must disclose any potential or obvious conflicts of interests with regards to the manuscript. Conflicts of interest such as financial disclosures, affiliations, financial or political interest regarding the publications, working liabilities etc. may cause misinterpretation of the data, lead to bias. Conflicts of interest do not impede the decision making on publishing a manuscript. Failure to disclose the potential or obvious conflicts of interest may lead to the rejection of the article.
    Financial disclosure. Funding sources of both scientific work and publishing issues (funds, commercial or state institutions, private funds etc.). Disclosure of the amount of funding is not necessary.
    Acknowledgements. Authors may express their gratitude towards the non-author contributors or organizations.
  5. References. Each reference should be given on a new line in consecutive order.
    • the references are given in consecutive order according to the citation order, NOT alphabetical order;
    • the number of citations: the original article should not contain more than 20 references, review articles – no more than 50. Bibliographical sources should list recent publication (within 5 years);
    • the references in the text should be indicated in Arabic numerals in square brackets.  
      A complete list of all authors should be presented in every bibliographical entry. In cases of references with more than 6 authors, the first 6 authors are mentioned with the following “et al.” afterwards. Titles of the cited articles may not be abridged. The titles of the English language journals should correspond to the MedLine catalogue. The full title of the journal should be provided if it is not indexed in Medline.
      References formatting should be performed according to one of the foreign bibliographical standards such as NLM (National Library of Medicine) и Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journal.
  6. Contact information. Author names a given consecutively: name, patronymic, surname (family name), scientific degree, academic title, affiliation (including city and country). An asterisk is used to indicate the author, whose e-mail address is necessary for future correspondence. Addresses, phone numbers and e-mail of other authors are not necessary.
  7. Tables should be included in the body of the text. The tables must have a enumerated title and clearly indicated graphs which are convenient for reading. Such tables must correspond to the numerals used in the text, however the information in the tables need not repeat the data completely. References to the tables in the body of the text are mandatory.
  8. Illustrations (charts, diagrams, schemes, figures and other illustrations prepared with the use of MS Office) must be clear and have proper contrast. Graphic materials use should be limited (excluding the articles with specific data). Every figure should be included in the body of the text and must be followed by an enumerated description. References to the figures in the body of the text are mandatory.
  9. Pictures (photographs), screenshots and other non-drawn illustrations must be uploaded in a special submission form in *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif format (or *.doc and *.docx formats if the images have additional marks on them). The resolution of the illustrations should not be less than 300dpi. The files with images must be named according to the number of the image in the body of the text. The description of the file must be placed under the image and correspond to the title of the image in the text.
  10. Abbreviations. Along with common abbreviations of measurement units, physical, chemical, and mathematical terms (e.g. RNA), abbreviations of repeated phrases are also accepted (4 to 5 abbreviations). Abbreviations and abridged terms are used in exceptional cases and must be provided with an explanation at first mention. Single words may not be abridged. Authors are requested to use international units. Names of the microorganisms, genotypes and gene alleles should be italicized. Abbreviations are not used in conclusion and should be provided with an explanation in the abstract.
  11. Ethics. Data regarding the informed consent must be provided in the original articles. Articles involving animal experiments must be provided with a description of the ethical issues. In both cases information regarding the ethical committee approval must be provided (including the name of the institution, address, number of the protocol, date of the approval).
  12. Supplementary documents. Submission of the article to the Editorial board requires additional files with scanned images of signed and certified accompanying documents (in pdf or *.jpg format). A cover letter from the author’s affiliation is mandatory

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Absence of plagiarism. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Correct manuscript format. Manuscript file format is Microsoft Word (has the extension *.doc, *.docx, *.rtf). The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in "For Authors" section.
  • Cover letter. All the required supporting documents will be submitted together with the manuscript. Authors guarantee to upload scanned original of the filled cover letter in PDF. A cover letter signed by all authors.
