Abstract

This article presents Brigitte Miriam Bedos-Rezak, professor of the New-York University and one of the leading contemporary specialists in medieval sigillography of Western Europe to the Russian reader. It also provides a brief introduction to her research. Attention is drawn to the importance of seals as sources for the study of different aspects of medieval society and culture, as well as to the enormous contribution of the 17th century historiography to the formation of historical science, including sigillography and other auxiliary historical disciplines.
