Author Guidelines

Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that the work should be original and has not been published previously.

Please supply text electronically (by email or CD), in Word 1997-2010 (.doc, .docx). A hard copy is not required; nor is a pdf required. Address for submission: revue.srednie.veka@gmail.com. There no publication fee.

All manuscripts will be refereed. Decision concerning the publication of an article is made by the editorial board after the experts’ reviews (‘single blind peer review’).

Formatting your Typescript

The main manuscript for an initial submission should not exceed 40,000 characters, including spaces and footnotes. The publication of sources consists of the translation of an entire short original text with comments and an introductory artical. The volume should not exceed 80,000 characters, including spaces and footnotes.

The book review should not exceed 15,000 characters, including spaces and footnotes. The book reviews are accepted of recent editions only (3 years since publication in case of a Russian edition, and up to 5 years in case of a foreign one).

We accept papers formatted in Word 1997-2010 (.doc, .docx), Times New Roman fonts.

Page layout: 3 cm on the left side, and 2 cm – elsewhere. Page number should be at the top, on the right side. The text should be set up in Times New Roman font, with 14 points size and 1,5 spacing, and 0,63 indention of the first line in a paragraph. The text should be aligned edgewise. The title should be printed in bold.

Footnotes should be supplied using your word processing software’s standard note-making function, so that each note is embedded and connected to the text and can be automatically converted during copyediting. The footnotes should be paginal (at the bottom of a page) with continuing numbering. Font – Times New Roman, 12 points, 1,5 spacing, without indention of the first line.

The footnote mark is placed after the quotation marks, but before the punctuation mark that ends the sentence or part of it

- in the footnotes, an abbreviated bibliographic description is given (information about the publisher, the total number of pages is not given in the footnotes, but is given in the bibliographic lists at the end of the article).

- the surname and initials of the author are in italics; a space is placed between the author's surname and initials; there is no space between initials;

- a short dash is used to indicate the gap between page numbers: pp. 25–56.

- at the first citation of the work in the link, complete data are given, in the second and subsequent ones - abbreviated (the use of the abbreviation Op. Cit. Is not recommended in order to avoid confusion when citing several works of the same author). The title of the cited work is abbreviated to the title (the subtitle is discarded). Abbreviations of words and phrases are not used in the main title.

The article should also include an abstract in Russian (5-7 sentences, no less than 150 words) and a longer one (300 – 400 words, no less than 200 words) in English, lists of key-words in Russian and English (5–7 words), and basic information about author (the author’s professional affiliation, position, scientific degree, ORCID and email address). If the scientific work was supported by a grant, this is indicated in the footnote attached to the title of the article, under the ** symbol

The article should include a full bibliography for every work cited in it. The list should be at the end of the article:

- contain all books, articles, which were referenced in the article;

- organized in alphabetical order organized according to the Latin alphabet;

- typed in 12 point size, at one and a half intervals, without indent / protrusion of the first line of the paragraph;

- the lists provide a complete bibliographic description:

1) information about publishers, translators and other responsible persons;

2) information about the publishing house or printing house. In the absence of information, it is allowed to pass it;

3) the total number of pages for monographs and collections, the full page range for articles

The illustrations should be submitted as a separate file and, should the work be accepted for publication, the author(s) obtain the necessary permission to use material already protected by copyright.
