Abstract

The review provides a summary explanation of the monograph by Darya Omelchenko, which is the first comprehensive study of the personality of Caesarius, Bishop of Arles (ca. 470–542) in Russia. In addition to the general characteristics of the chapters that consistently reveal the era of Caesar and the directions of his policy, special attention is paid to the methodology of the study, namely, the author’s attempt not only to analyze the activities of the bishop in the difficult conditions of the transition from Antiquity to the Middle Ages, but also to analyze the forms of representation of his episcopal ministry, as well as the image of the saint formed in the collective memory of contemporaries.
