ENDOTHELIN-1 AND RESISTIN LEVELS AND INSULIN RESISTANCE IN VARYING DEGREES OF CARBOHYDRATE METABOLIC DISTURBANCES

Abstract
An association was studied between endothelin-1 and resistin levels and insulin resistance in patients with varying degrees of carbohydrate metabolic disturbances. There was an elevated resistin level in women and in those with glucose intolerance (GI) or type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and in men with GI only. The most marked increase in endothelin-1 level was found in women with GI. The level of endothelin-1 was directly related to that of resistin in insulin-resistant men.
