SIGNIFICANCE OF N34S MUTATION IN THE SPINK1 GENE IN CHANGING THE CLINICAL COURSE OF CHRONIC PANCREATITIS

Abstract

The investigation showed that the N34S mutation in the SPINK1 gene (a pancreatic secretory trypsin inhibitor gene) was most common in patients with toxic and idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (CP). The significantly high rate of identification of the above mutation in patients with complicated forms of idiopathic CP suggests the increased risk of disease complications.
