Abstract

The incidence of mycotic infection was studied in 77 children with cancers after polychemotherapy (PCT). Multiple courses of high-dose PCT, antibacterial therapy, long-term bone marrow aplasia, frequent forced corticosteroid use and, possibly, untimely diagnosis of the infection have a considerable impact on the development of mycotic infection. To treat the latter in cancer patients is a serious problem particularly in febrile neutropenia and the mortality rates are significant (up to 60%).
