Abstract

Ultrasound study (USS) (sonography) is a simple, non-invasive technique of investigating the locomotor apparatus, which enjoys wide application when examining children and adolescents as it is not associated with the use of ionizing radiation that is harmful to the growing organism. At the present stage, sonography is a practically compulsory study in the examination of patients with joint inflammatory lesions and in the monitoring of their treatment results, including those in rheumatoid arthritis. USS enables one to visualize a minimum of joint effusion, to detail the magnitude of changes in the synovial membrane, and to diagnose tendon pathology.
