Abstract

HIV genotyping and phylogenetic methods were used in the epidemiological investigation of a case of HIV infection in a child in the Lipetsk Region. The risk of HIV infection in the child receiving healthcare was ruled out with a high degree of probability; the virus was concluded to have been transmitted from an HIV-infected mother to her child. It is expedient to use the capabilities of the phylogenetic assay to investigate HIV infection cases that are likely to be associated with healthcare.
