Abstract

The paper gives an update on the epidemiology of papillomavirus (PV) infection and the etiopathogenesis of human PV-induced mucosal diseases at various sites. Recent publications on the role of the virus in the oncogenesis of different epithelial cancer forms (first all, cancer of the cervix uteri, carcinoma) are discussed. The problem of PV vaccination is depicted; promising areas in this area are discussed.
