Abstract

Currently, there is a substantial evolution of knowledge about the physiological role of vitamin D. Its receptors are assumed to be involved in the mechanisms of pain generation. There have been a large number of studies revealing the significance of hypovitaminosis D primarily in chronic pain syndromes and diseases, in which musculoskeletal factors are dominant in the formation of pain. The paper highlights the present-day views on the association of pain with vitamin D levels in the body and reviews the studies conducted in this area.
