INTERMITTENT PNEUMATIC COMPRESSION IN PREVENTING POSTOPERATIVE VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLIC EVENTS
Abstract
The efficiency of intermittent pneumatic compression used as a method for preventing postoperative venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) was evaluated in patients at high risk for their development. Prospects for further improvement of the results of comprehensive prevention of VTEs through this technique were determined.

ENDOTHELIAL ADHESIVE FUNCTION IN NONALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE
Abstract
Examining the plasma levels of adhesion molecules of the immunoglobulin superfamily revealed increased blood adhesins in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, especially in those with severe hepatic steatosis and enhanced aminotransferase activities.

ANTIANGINAL THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH STABLE ANGINA
Abstract
The treatment of stable angina involves the use of life expectancy-increasing drugs (antiaggregants, statins, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and sartans), and antianginal medications. The first-line antianginal drugs prescribed for angina include ß-adrenoblockers and calcium antagonists, the second-line medications are long-acting nitrates, ivabradine, nicorandil, trimetazidine, and ranolazine. The paper discusses the anti-ischemic efficacy of nicorandil and describes Russian and foreign trials investigating the drug. It gives data on the additional properties of nicorandil, which allow its use in the therapy of coronary heart disease.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE FLUCONAZOLE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF CLINICAL ISOLATES OF CANDIDA ALBICANS
Abstract
A microdilution method was used to investigate the susceptibility of the clinical isolates of Candida albicans from vaginal discharge to the commonly used antifungal medication fluconazole. The findings were compared with the data obtained when using the disk diffusion method.

CIRCULATING TUMOR CELLS IN COLORECTAL CANCER
Abstract
The paper presents the results of investigating the detection rate and number of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the peripheral blood of patients with metastatic and non-metastatic colorectal cancer. The investigation revealed interesting differences between the groups. The findings prove the possibility and feasibility of using the level of CTCs as a predictor for the clinical course of a tumor process.

COMPLICATIONS OF INGUINAL HERNIOTOMY: CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF POSTOPERATIVE HEMATOMAS
Abstract
The paper analyzes the results of 625 elective and emergency herniotomies carried out for inguinal hernias and their complications at Moscow City Clinical Hospital Sixty-Seven in the period 2005 to 2016. A relationship of the incidence of postoperative hematomas to the techniques of inguinal herniotomy has been determined.

IMPACT OF THE TYPE OF A PROSTHESIS ON THE BIOMECHANICS OF THE KNEE JOINT
Abstract
A difference in the biomechanics of the knee joint after arthroplasty with implants, by preserving the posterior cruciate ligament and its replacement, has been first determined using current multislice computer tomography. In the former case, the endoprosthesis has been proved to reproduce more accurately the kinematics of the healthy knee joint.

OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA TREATMENT AS AN ELEMENT OF PREGRAVID PREPARATION
Abstract
The paper describes a case of pregnancy in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Both Russian and foreign medicine recognizes this disorder as a contraindication to pregnancy due to the high risk of maternal and fetal complications. The paper gives data on current treatments for OI with drugs that inhibit bone resorption. It is noted that their use in women of childbearing age should be considered as an element of pregravid preparation; even in case of their discontinuation during pregnancy, they contribute to the improvement a perinatal outcome and to the intrauterine consolidation of resulting fractures. This conclusion is based on a previous clinical observation. The safety of using bisphosphonates, teriparatide, denosumab, and strontium ranelate in patients during pregnancy and, possibly, lactation is to be investigated.
