The article discusses the influence of damping on the dynamic loading of tracked tractor drivetrains and the under-carriage systems in operation. The approaches of foreign and domestic scientists on the possibility of calculating the damping properties of materials are analyzed, including the Maxwell theory of viscous resistance, the Kelvin-Voigt theory of viscous friction, the Boltzmann-Volterra theory of heredity and others, as well as the theories of domestic scientists Davidenkov N. N., Panovko Ya. G. and Sorokin E. S. on taking into account the role of microplastic de-formations in the mechanism of energy dissipation during vibrations. The influence of their dimensions, temperature and heat treatment methods on the damping abilities of material samples made from structural and special steels is considered. The results of assessing the damping abilities of structural elements, such as spline and key joints, ball and roller bearings, with structural damping are presented. Methods for the calculation of damping parameters in drivetrains, proposed by foreign and domestic authors, are considered. A classification of damping devices used in undercarriage systems and drivetrains of tracked vehicles is given. The design of typical schemes of passive and active dampers, which are used to reduce the dynamic loading of parts in suspension systems and in the machine drivetrain, is considered. The article describes the technical solution of an active adaptive damper, which is proposed and patented by the authors, and has high efficiency under dynamic impacts with a wide operational frequency spectrum and amplitude range.
