Focus and Scope

Geomorfologiya (Geomorphology RAS) Journal designed to further development of conceptual and methodical problems of geomorphology. It is integrates Russian geomorphologists, and some of foreign countries more recently, provides an opportunity of active communication, meeting with new ideas and developments, discussing of current issues.

Fundamental theoretical issues on geomorphology are goes in large in the Journal; also common patterns of the Earth and other planets relief structure and development are widely discussed, as well as researches of lands and seas morphostructure and morphosculpture. Besides regional issues on new tectonics and structural geomorphology are under discussion, as well as morphometry and hypsometry, fluvial, coastal and seafloor geomorphology, ecological, anthropogenic, applied geomorphology and other urgent problems are discussed.

Peer Review Process

Content selection

The scope of the journal includes such topics as geomorphology of land, sea shores and bottom, paleogeomorphology, as well as results of applied research usable in the national economy; an appropriate attention is paid to the application of new methods in the geomorphology. Articles on neotectonics and paleogeography are accepted only if their subject has a direct bearing to the geomorphology. The journal publishes also critical reviews of new scientific works on the above-stated subjects, as well as current information on the scientific conferences and congresses.

We welcome discussions if they are of general scientific, and not personal, interest. The journal does not print an opinion of one author on the other’s competence and qualification, but only purely scientific comments on his work.

The submitted papers should be reporting essential results of completed and not published previously research.

All the papers coming to the editorial office of «Geomorphology” are necessarily subject to anonymous reviewing both by members of the editorial board and invited reviewers (including foreign scientists) – specialists in the field of geomorphology the paper deals with. After the paper had obtained an approval of the reviewers and passed scientific and literary editing, it is discussed at the meeting of the editorial board and is finally accepted for publication.

In case the reviewers had essential critical comments, the paper is sent to the author for making the necessary corrections and complements and then sent to the reviewers once again. If the author and the reviewers cannot come to an agreement about the manuscript, the editors may seek for an opinion of an independent expert. Final decision on whether the paper should be accepted or rejected is made by the editorial board in accordance with the reviewers’ recommendations. In case of conflict situation, the final decision on whether or not the paper is to be published is made by the chief editor

Peer-review

A double-blind peer review method is mandatory for processing of all scientific manuscripts submitted to the editorial stuff of "Geomorfologiya (Geomorphology RAS)”. Reviewers tasks include novelty and scholary importance test, authentisity of research results test, article’s content and recital style test, verification of paper’s name and abstract relevance to its content, finding out published papers concerning research topic, not mentioned in the manuscript.

  1. The articles is reviewed by the leading experts in the corresponding area of geomorphology. We aim to limit the review process to 2–4 weeks, though in some cases the schedule may be adjusted at the reviewer’s request. Upon the scrutiny, the reviewer is expected to present the editorial board with one of the following recommendations: a) to accept the paper in its present state; b) to invited the author to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before final decision is reached; c) that final decision be reached following further reviewing by another specialist; d) to reject the manuscript outright.
  2. If the reviewer has recommended any refinements, the editorial staff would suggest the author either to implement the corrections, or to dispute them reasonably. Authors are kindly required to limit their revision to 2 months and resubmit the adapted manuscript within this period for final evaluation.
  3. We politely request that the editor be notified verbally or in writing should the author decide to refuse from publishing the manuscript. In case the author fails to do so within 3 months since receiving a copy of the initial review, the editorial board takes the manuscript off the register and notifies the author accordingly.
  4. If author and reviewers meet insoluble contradictions regarding revision of the manuscript, the editor-in-chief resolves the conflict by his own authority.
  5. The editorial board reaches final decision to reject a manuscript on the hearing according to reviewers’ recommendations, and duly notifies the authors of their decision via e-mail. The board does not accept previously rejected manuscripts for re-evaluation.
  6. Kindly note that positive review does not guarantee the acceptance, as final decision in all cases lies with the editorial board. By his authority, editor-in-chief rules final solution of every conflict. Original reviews of submitted manuscripts remain deposited for 3 years.
