Spontaneous stop of «hot» pipelines

Abstract

The article describes a mechanism to reduce the performance of pipelines with oil heating stations (so-called «hot» piping), that transport solidifying paraffin oil.
Temporary disconnection of oil heating may not only lead to an increase in oil viscosity, but also can create conditions for the emergence and strengthening of thixotropic structural lattice in paraffin oil.
This leads to an intense increase in the viscosity in the area of Newtonian flow
of the oil. Decreasing performance of centrifugal pumps contributes to even greater increase in viscosity and finally to a complete stop of oil flow.Examples of the «spontaneous» stop of real «hot» pipelines are listed.
