Abstract

The article considers the pathogenetic relationship between two common diseases - osteoarthrosis (OA) and the metabolic syndrome (MS). The data on the role of inflammatory mediators, including adipokines, in the development of articular cartilage damage are presented. The presence of MS and its individual components is a risk factor for OA of various joints, especially in women and Asians, and the frequency of MS is higher in patients with OA. This correlation promotes search for common therapeutic approaches for these diseases.
